Every relationship is different, but no matter who your relationship is with, it’s important to first have a good relationship with yourself.
Take some time to explore what makes you YOU, and think about the things that are important to you. Think about what kind of relationship you want, and what those relationships might mean to you. When we take time to get to know ourselves, it gives us a strong foundation for our identity, and for our relationships with other people.
What makes you YOU?
Relationships are strongest when we know ourselves. Who you are influenced by – your culture, your family, your beliefs, your experiences. We all have things that are similar to other people, and things that are different about us – being different is ok.
Remember, what YOU want and think is important – when you know what you want and believe, it can be easier to work through hard things in your relationships.
Knowing ourselves helps us have respectful relationships.
What do you want from your relationships? Romantic relationships can be diverse and are unique with different people. We all want different things in our relationships. Some of us have relationships with people of the same-sex and some of us have relationships with people of the opposite sex. Sometimes we have relationships with people from different cultural backgrounds to ours.
Regardless of who your relationship is with, it’s important to know what YOU want from them.
